Objective:To explore the influence of internal hot acupuncture on the lumbar spine and other related indicators in patients with lumbar disc herniation. Methods: 122 patients with lumbar intervertebral disc herniation admitted from the massage department of a hospital were studied. They were randomly divided into the blank group (n=61 cases, treated with electric acupuncture and moxibustion) and the internal heat group (n=61 cases, treated with internal heat acupuncture). The changes of lumbar function and other indicators in the two groups were compared. Result: The JOA score of lumbar spine function in the internal heat group was higher in the internal heat group compared to the blank group. The serum cytokines and erythrocyte sedimentation rate indicators were more favorable in the internal heat group than in the blank group. The treatment efficacy rate in the internal heat group surpassed that of the blank group. The pain score was lower in the internal heat group compared to the blank group. Furthermore, the range of lumbar curvature was greater in the internal heat group than in the blank group. All of these data points are statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:The lumbar function of patients with lumbar disc herniation can be significantly improved by internal hot acupuncture, which can be popularized in clinical practice.
