A Clinical Investigation on the Distinct Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Accompanied by Pruritus
Objective:This study was designed to analyse the clinical characteristics of different traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndromes in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus accompanied by pruritus, thereby providing a foundation for improved prognostic assessment and TCM therapeutic strategies. Methods:Sixty patients meeting the criteria for Type 2 diabetes mellitus with concurrent pruritus were enrolled. They were classified according to TCM differential diagnostics, and their clinical data underwent statistical analysis. Results:Among the participants of this study,a higher incidence was observed in males and the elderly, with those having an extended duration of the disease being most prevalent. The distribution of TCM syndromes was predominantly characterized by Yin deficiency and blood dryness. There was a significant correlation between the type of TCM syndrome and various clinical indicators such as low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, carotid artery ultrasonography abnormalities, and electrochemical skin conduc-tance on the hands and feet.Multifactorial analysis suggested that low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, carotid artery ultrasound results, and electrochemical conductance measurements of the hands and feet are critical factors influenc-ing the differentiation of TCM syndromes in patients suffering from Type 2 diabetes mellitus with pruritus(P<0.05).Conclusion:The study underscores a notable association between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, carotid athero-sclerosis,and limb sudomotor function with the TCM syndrome types in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus and pruritus, highlighting their potential roles in clinical and therapeutic contexts.
