This article summarizes the commonly used horn medicines used by Director LI Zhongnan to treat gout. According to the characteristics of the etiology and pathogenesis of gout in traditional Chinese medicine,dampness,toxins,blood stasis,and deficiency are mostly the pathological factors. The treatment is mainly to remove dampness and turbidity,clear away heat and detoxify,and activate blood circulation and unblock collateral,and to protect the spleen and kidney. Director Li flexibly uses horn medicines in clinical practice according to the different evolution of the dis-ease and the characteristics of the combined pathogenic factors. Director Li believes that horn medicines are concise and simple,with small amounts and great power,and complement each other. From ancient times to the present,doctors have been good at using them and patients like them. One group,or 2 to 3 groups can be used together in the prescrip-tion,and the effect is remarkable.
