A New Interpretation of Pulse Diagnosis in the"Ling Shu"
It is mentioned in"Ling Shu":Nine Needles and Twelve Origins that"when you are about to use acu-puncture,you must first take the pulse."This sentence reveals the key to using acupuncture-taking the pulse.How-ever,later doctors usually limit their explanation of this view to taking the pulse, one of the four diagnoses in traditional Chinese medicine, and ignore the guiding role of meridians in acupuncture treatment. As an important concept in traditional Chinese medicine theory, meridians undertake the important functions of running Qi and blood,connect-ing internal organs, and communicating the inside and outside. The running status of meridians is closely related to the health of the human body and is crucial to the efficacy of acupuncture. Therefore, this article aims to supplement the connotation of the concept of"taking the pulse"and introduce the meridian diagnosis method on the basis of taking the pulse.Through the three steps of observing the meridians, distinguishing the meridians, and selecting the meridians,we can fully understand the patient's condition, accurately judge the nature of the disease, and thus formulate the most appropriate acupuncture treatment plan. The application of the meridian diagnosis method helps to improve the efficacy of acupuncture treatment and provide new ideas and methods for the development of traditional Chinese medicine acu-puncture.
