This paper summarizes Professor LIU Yun's clinical experience in treating diarrhea based on the theory of ascending and clearing dampness.It is believed that diarrhea belongs to the common diseases of the internal system of traditional Chinese medicine.Its pathogenesis is weakness of the middle Jiao,which leads to diarrhea due to the fail-ure of spleen yang to ascend;or it is caused by liver wood restraining,lung Qi disorder,and abnormal water flow regu-lation;or it is caused by the decline of life gate fire and spleen and kidney yang deficiency.The treatment emphasizes strengthening the spleen and removing dampness,and protecting the middle Jiao throughout the whole process.The formula starts with strengthening the spleen and ascending yang,soothing the liver and descending the lung,or warming and tonifying the kidney yang,based on regulating the overall functions of the spleen,stomach,liver,lung,triple Jiao,spleen and kidney to achieve the purpose of regulating water channels and returning body fluids to treat diarrhea.
