Encephalitis is often listed as a febrile disease in traditional Chinese medicine and is an inflammatory disease of the brain.TAN Zihu believes that the occurrence of encephalitis is mostly caused by the infiltration of damp-heat poison in the body,or the combination of phlegm and blood stasis,or the combination of qi and yin deficiency and central nervous system disorders.It follows the law of transmission and transformation of Wei Qi,Ying and Blood,and develops progressively from the outside to the inside and from the surface to the inside.In treatment,we should pay at-tention to staged treatment.In the early stage of the disease,we should clear damp-heat evil toxins to cut off the source of the disease and prevent transmission;in the middle stage of the disease,we should focus on eliminating phlegm and blood stasis to clear Qi,Ying and blood,and unblock the way of qi and blood blockage;in the late stage of the disease,we should pay attention to replenishing the yin and blood of the five internal organs and harmonizing the yin and yang pivots to treat it.The prescriptions used are mostly Yinqiao Powder combined with Baihu Decoction,Qingying Decoc-tion combined with Qingwen Baidu Drink,Zixuedan,Liuwei Dihuang Pills,Huoma Ren,Suanzaoren,etc.
