Objective To investigate the clinical effect of modified Xin'an Jiezao Decoction combined with Chinese herbal im-mersion in the treatment of chronic hand eczema. Methods A total of 60 patients with chronic hand eczema were randomly di-vided into control group and observation group, with 30 patients in each group. The patients in the control group received soa-king with prescribed external wash for chronic hand eczema, followed by external application of urea cream, and those in the observation group received modified Xin'an Jiezao Decoction in addition to the treatment in the control group. The two groups were compared in terms of Hand Eczema Severity Index (HECSI),Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)scores of itching and pain, and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI)before treatment and after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment, and overall therapeutic ef-ficacy,adverse reactions, and recurrence were also evaluated. Results Both groups had significant reductions in HECSI, VAS,and DLQI scores after 4 weeks of treatment (P<0.05),and these scores after 8 weeks of treatment were significantly lower than those after 4 weeks of treatment (P<0.05),with significantly greater reductions in the observation group (P<0.05).Compared with the control group, the observation group had a significantly better treatment outcome (P<0.05)and a significantly lower recurrence rate (P<0.05),with little adverse effect in either group. Conclusion Modified Xin'an Jiezao Decoction combined with Chinese herbal immersion has a marked clinical effect in the treatment of chronic hand eczema.
