Clinical Effect of Wrist-Ankle Acupuncture in Promoting the Recovery of Gastrointestinal Function after Surgery for Gastrointestinal Malignant Tumors
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of wrist-ankle acupuncture in promoting the recovery of gastrointestinal function after surgery for gastrointestinal malignant tumors. Methods A total of 62 patients with gastrointestinal malignant tumors were divided into observation group and control group using a random number table and the envelope method, with 31 patients in each group. The patients in the control group received conventional surgical treatment and symptomatic treatment, and in addition to the treatment in the control group, those in the observation group received wrist-ankle acupuncture immedi-ately after recovery from general anesthesia. After the treatment ended, the two groups were observed in terms of the recovery of gastrointestinal function, the secretion of gastrointestinal hormones, wound pain score, and the improvement in nutritional status. Results Compared with the control group, the observation group had significantly shorter time to first bowel sound, time to first flatus, time to first defecation, and time to diet(P<0.05).On day 1 after surgery, compared with the control group, the observation group had a significant reduction in the serum level of pepsin Ⅱ(P<0.05);on day 3 after surgery, compared with the control group, the observation group had significant reductions in the serum levels of pepsin Ⅰ and pepsin Ⅱ(P<0.05)and an increase in the serum level of gastrin-17 (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the observation group had a significant reduction in the visual analogue scale score of wound pain on days 1 and 3 after surgery (P<0.05). There were no significant differences between the two groups in the levels of total protein, albumin, and hemoglobin before sur-gery and on days 1 and 3 after surgery (P>0.05). Conclusion Wrist-ankle acupuncture has a good clinical effect on the re-covery of gastrointestinal function after surgery for gastrointestinal malignant tumors.
