Clinical Effect of Dong's Odd Points Combined with Quanliao Moxibustion in Treatment of Peripheral Facial Paralysis During the Convalescent Stage
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of acupuncture at distal Dong's odd points combined with Quanliao cir-cling moxibustion in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis during the convalescent stage. Methods A total of 60 patients in the convalescent stage of peripheral facial paralysis were randomly divided into observation group (treated with acupuncture at Dong's odd points combined with Quanliao moxibustion)and control group (treated with conventional acupuncture combined with Quanliao moxibustion),with 30 patients in each group. Before treatment and after 2 and 4 weeks of treatment,House-Brackmann facial nerve function classification,Facial Disability Index (FDI),and modified Portmann's Simple Scale were used to evaluate treatment outcome, and clinical outcome was observed and compared between the two groups. Results Compared with the control group, the observation group had a significantly better improvement in House-Brackmann facial nerve function classifi-cation (odds ratio=2.303,P<0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment, compared with the control group, the observation group had significantly better improvements in the score of modified Portmann's Simple Scale and the physical functioning score of FDI and a significantly greater reduction in the social functioning score of FDI (P<0.05).The observation group had a signifi-cantly better clinical outcome than the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture at distal Dong's odd points com-bined with Quanliao moxibustion can effectively improve facial nerve function, facial muscle movement, somatization function, and social function in patients with peripheral facial paralysis.
