Relationship between workplace safety signs, risk perception and safety attention
To explore the deep-level relationships among safety signs, risk perception, and safety attention and propose effective management measures to reduce accidents caused by human errors,a hypothetical model is developed based on the dual-system theory of decision-making.The model aims to establish the relationships among these three factors through theoretical analysis and literature review.Data from 487 employees in the Chinese manufacturing industry are collected at two different time points.Harman's single-factor test and the latent common method factor test are conducted to examine common method bias, while confirmatory factor analysis using Mplus 8.3 is employed to demonstrate good discriminant validity between variables.Hierarchical regression analysis and Bootstrap tests are conducted to verify the hypothesized model and examine the mediating and moderating effects. The results indicate a significant positive influence of safety signs on employees'safety attention. This suggests that the level of safety attention among employees increases with increasing the effectiveness of safety signs in the workplace.Risk perception plays a mediating role in the relationship between safety signs and safety attention, indicating that safety signs not only directly influenced safety attention but also indirectly impacted it through risk perception.Furthermore, safety training not only positively moderates the relationship between safety signs and risk perception but also plays a positive moderating role in the indirect effect of safety signs on safety attention through risk perception.Conversely, time pressure negatively moderates the relationship between risk perception and employees'safety attention and also negatively moderates the indirect effect of safety signs on safety attention through risk perception.Based on these findings, organizations should prioritize safety signs in the workplace, schedule regular safety training, enhance employees'risk perception, and pay attention to task allocation and performance goal setting. These measures can effectively improve employees'safety attention and reduce accidents caused by human errors.
