Study on the formation mechanism of unsafe behavior of construction workers from the perspective of TPB
It is essential to clarify the causes of unsafe behaviors of construction workers to reduce the incidence of accidents on the construction site.To explore the different influences of internal and external factors on unsafe behaviors, this paper proposes a hypothetical theoretical model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB),including both belief factors(behavioral attitude, perceived behavioral control, subjective norms)and situational factors(safety leadership, safety atmosphere).A questionnaire is distributed to 410 workers on the construction site, and the empirical test is conducted by a Structural Equation Model and a Hierarchical Regression Model. The results show that:(1)Behavioral attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control significantly negatively affect the occurrence of unsafe behaviors.(2)Unsafe behavioral intentions play a mediating role in the influence of each belief factor on unsafe behaviors.(3)The influence of behavioral attitude and subjective norms on unsafe behaviors is more dependent on the mediating role of unsafe behavioral intentions, while perceived behavioral control is more inclined to directly affect workers'unsafe behaviors.(4)Safety climate significantly moderates the influence of unsafe behavioral intentions on unsafe behaviors, and the moderating effect of safety norm implementation is the most significant. That is,when organization members strictly implement safety norms, employees'unsafe behavioral intentions are relatively less likely to transform into actual unsafe behaviors.(5)Safety leadership significantly moderates the influence of unsafe behavior intention on unsafe behavior, and the moderating effect of safety concern is the most significant. When leaders fully care about safety issues, employees'safety behavior intention is relatively less likely to turn into actual unsafe behavior. From the perspective of the system, this paper explains the different effects of belief factors and situation factors in the process of unsafe behaviors of construction workers and provides a theoretical basis for project managers to effectively avoid the occurrence of unsafe behaviors.
