Current status and progress in dust particle size distribution detection technology
Accurate monitoring of dust particle size distribution is crucial for miners'health and mine safety. It plays a pivotal role in preventing occupational diseases and averting safety accidents.Traditional techniques for detecting dust particle size distribution, such as sieving and sedimentation methods, are not only cumbersome and time-consuming but also fail to accurately represent the continuous distribution of particle size and microstructure. This study systematically reviews modern methods for detecting dust particle size distribution. It includes the microscopic observation method, aerodynamic method, electrical mobility method, and optical measurement method. The review compares their respective advantages and limitations in the context of dust monitoring. The microscopic observation method utilizes optical equipment, such as microscopes,to directly observe particle morphology and structure, offering detailed characteristics of particle shapes. On the other hand, the aerodynamic method categorizes particles according to their movement characteristics in air, such as settling velocity and floating ability, providing fundamental physical parameters of particles. The electrical mobility method examines particle migration behavior under an electric field, deriving size information from particle migration velocities within the field. Both the aerodynamic and electrical mobility methods classify particles based on their physical behaviors. The optical measurement method utilizes light scattering and diffraction phenomena to analyze particle size distribution, shape, and other optical properties. This method not only determines particle size distribution but also monitors particle concentration and real-time changes. Each method offers unique benefits in terms of operational ease, measurement range, and accuracy. However, selecting the appropriate method in practical applications requires consideration of specific monitoring scenarios and requirements. The future of dust particle size distribution monitoring technology is anticipated to advance towards high-precision measurements,real-time monitoring,multi-scale analysis, and health impact research.Innovations in portable and real-time monitoring equipment will offer greater flexibility for on-site inspections, ultimately enhancing miners'health protection and improving mine safety.
