A Study of Ming and Qing Dynasty Inscriptions at Qianshan Zuyue Temple
There are three inscriptions on the Zuyue Temple during the Ming and Qing dynasties in Qianshan:the Ming Dynasty's"Establishment of Guanyin Cave Stele",the Qianlong 60th year(1795)'s"Imperial E-dict for the Reconstruction of Zuyue Temple Stele",and the Daoguang 4th year(1824)'s"Preface to the Re-construction of Zuyue Temple Stele".Based on the inscriptions of the monks on the"Creation of Guanyin Cave Stele"and the inscriptions of other temples in Qianshan,it can be roughly determined that the"Creation of Guanyin Cave Stele"was erected in the late Ming Wanli period. At the same time, research was conducted on the derivation of the Guanyin Cave from"Wuliang"to"Wuliang Temple",confirming that the name"Wuliang Temple"was derived from the 21st to 32nd years of the Kangxi reign. From the inscriptions of the names of the monks on the three stone tablets of"Creating the Guanyin Cave Stele","Edict for the Reconstruction of the Zuyue Temple Stele",and"Preface to the Reconstruction of the Zuyue Temple Stele",we can understand the practice of the Jinding Pilu sect monks in Zuyue Temple. From the inscription on the monument,we can also learn about the business situation of shops in Qianshan at that time,as well as the situation of the temple repair and inscription donated by the benevolent believers.
