In 1840,Robert Thom along with his Chinese teacher Mun Mooy Seen-Shang co-translated Aesop's fables and published them under the title Yishi Yuyan.This translation of 81 fables underwent multiple revisions by domestic and oversea scholars and translators,gaining wide circulation in China.Today,examining the motives behind Robert and Mun Mooy Seen-Shang collaborative translation of Yishi Yuyan,the Chinese localization approach,and the historical dissemination of this translation in China,help clarify the role of Yishi Yuyan the inter-cultural communication and the adaptation of Aesop's Fables within Chinese cultural contexts and literary forms.Discussion on the correction of the translation misnomer"Yishi Zashuo"and underlying reasons for such translation errors.
