Expression and clinical significance of calcitonin and vascular endothelial growth factor C in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma
Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of calcitonin(Ctn)and vascular endothe-lial growth factor C(VEGFC)in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma(MTC).Method A total of 82 MTC patients and 71 healthy subjects were selected as observation group and control group, respectively. The levels of Ctn and VEGFC were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The Ctn and VEGFC levels of the two groups and MTC patients with different TNM stages were compared.MTC patients were followed up for 1 year and divided into good prognosis group and poor prognosis group. The clinical characteristics of MTC patients in the good prognosis group and the poor prognosis group were compared, and the influencing factors of prognosis of MTC patients were analyzed by Logistic re-gression model.Result The Ctn and VEGFC levels in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).The levels of Ctn and VEGFC in stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ MTC pa-tients were significantly higher than those in stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ patients, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).There were significant differences in TNM stage, lymph node metastasis,Ctn level and VEGFC level between good prog-nosis group and poor prognosis group(P<0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that TNM stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ,lymph node metastasis,Ctn level increased and VEGFC level increased were independent risk factors for poor prognosis in MTC patients(P<0.05).Conclusion The expression of Ctn and VEGFC are increased in MTC patients, and their ex-pression levels are closely related to the occurrence, development and prognosis of MTC.
