Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of oxaliplatin combined with fluorouracil in the treatment of elderly patients with advanced gastric cancer.Method A total of 102 elderly patients with advanced gastric cancer were divided into irinotecan group(n=47)and oxaliplatin group(n=55)based on different treatment methods.Patients in the irinotecan group received irinotecan+fluorouracil treatment, while patients in the oxaliplatin group received oxaliplat-in+fluorouracil treatment. The clinical efficacy, quality of life[European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life questionnaire core 30(EORTC QLQ-C30)],and incidence of adverse reactions were compared be-tween two groups.Result The total effective rate in the oxaliplatin group was 41.82%,which was not significantly dif-ferent with 38.30%in the irinotecan group(P>0.05).After treatment, the scores of all dimensions of EORTC QLQ-C30 in both groups were higher than those before treatment, and the scores of all dimensions of EORTC QLQ-C30 in the oxali-platin group were higher than those in the irinotecan group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in the incidence of anemia, thrombocytopenia, liver dysfunction, stomatitis, nausea and vomiting, and hand foot syndrome between the two groups(P>0.05).The incidence of leukopenia, diarrhea, and peripheral neurotoxicity in the oxaliplatin group were lower than those in the irinotecan group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The clinical efficacy of oxaliplatin+fluorouracil and irinotecan+flu-orouracil chemotherapy regimens in the treatment of elderly patients with advanced gastric cancer are similar, but the for-mer has lower incidence of leukopenia, diarrhea, and peripheral neurotoxicity, and better quality of life for patients.
