Efficacy of TCM nasopharyngeal irrigation combined with oral administration of TCM decoction in the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with radiation-induced nasopharyngeal mucosal damage
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)nasopharyngeal irriga-tion combined with oral administration of TCM decoction in the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with ra-diation-induced nasopharyngeal mucosal damage.Method A total of 100 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with radia-tion-induced nasopharyngeal mucosal damage were divided into study group and control group, with 50 cases in each group.Patients in the control group were given TCM nasopharyngeal irrigation, and patients in the study group were giv-en TCM nasopharyngeal irrigation combined with oral administration of TCM decoction. The clinical efficacy, mucosal injury degree, pain degree[numerical rating scale(NRS]and quality of life[European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer head and neck cancer quality of life questionnaire(EORTC QLQ-H&N35)]were compared between the two groups.Result The clinical efficacy of the study group was better than that of the control group, and the differ-ence was statistically significant(P<0.05).After 7 weeks of treatment, the mucosal injury degree of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).After 3 and 7 weeks of treatment, the NRS scores in both groups were lower than those before treatment, and the NRS scores in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After 7 weeks of treatment, the EORTC QLQ-H&N35 scores of the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the EORTC QLQ-H&N35 score of the study group was lower than that of the control group, and the differences were statisti-cally significant(P<0.05).Conclusion TCM nasopharyngeal irrigation combined with oral administration of TCM de-coction is effective in the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients with radiation-induced nasopharyngeal mucosal injury, which can effectively reduce mucosal injury and pain degree, and improve quality of life.
