Pollution Characteristics and Ecological Risk Assessment of Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers Between Huainan and Bengbu Section of the Huaihe River
The age of the sediment core was determined by using the 210 Pb isotope dating method, and the content of polybrominated diphenyl ethers ( PBDEs) was analyzed by using GC-MS.The ecological risk assessment of the sampling points was conducted by using the risk entropy method. The results indicated that commercial Deca-BDE,Octa-BDE,Penta-BDE products, and debromination of higher degree bromo-diphenyl ether compounds may serve as sources for polybrominated diphenyl ethers in the Huaihe River. The prevalence of BDE-47 in the sediment cores can be attributed to widespread usage of Bromkal 70-5 diphenyl ether (Bromkal 70-5DE) and Bramkal DE-71 in this region.Reduction debromination within the sediments resulted in a higher occurrence of BDE-28.Since the 1980s,extensive commercial use of poly-brominated diphenyl ethers has led to a significant increase in their concentration across all three sampling areas. Most time periods exhibited a low ecological risk with a risk entropy value below 0.01.
