Analysis of Maugham's View of Women and its Causes in the Novel of The Moon and Sixpence
In The Moon and Sixpence,one of Maugham's masterpieces,the hero Strickland has marriage or love entanglements with Amy Strickland,Blanche and Ata.Different from Strickland who pursues his faith,the three women lack independent personality.It analyzed the three women's lives in this paper from the perspective of feminism as well as the historical background and personal experience of Maugham,and explored his backward view of women and its causes,thereby helping the readers get rid of the influence of patriarchal culture.
