Research Progress on Human Metapneumovirus Infection
Human metapneumovirus(HMPV)is a leading cause of acute respiratory tract infection, can cause upper and lower respiratory disease in people of all ages.Symptoms commonly associated with HMPV include cough, fever, nasal congestion, and shortness of breath, clinical symptoms of HMPV infection may progress tobronchitis or pneumonia among children, elderly, and immunocompromised patients.Currently, there is no specific antiviral therapy to treat HMPV and no vaccine to prevent HMPV.Medical care is supportive. From January to April 2023,the detection rate of HMPV reached its peak in the United States, with a large number of cases occurring in a short period of time, which has attracted widespread attention from all sectors. This paper briefly summarizes the previous studies and reports on the molecular virology, epidemiology, clinical features and pathogenesis of HMPV,so as to provide reference for scientific prevention and control of HMPV infection.
