Rhabdovirus Contamination in Insect Cells Should be of Concern
Sf-rhabdovirus(Sf-RV),a linear negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus, was found in insect cell line(Sf)isolated from female Armyworm(Spodoptera frugiperda)larvae in 2014.The discovery of Sf-rhabdovirus(Sf-RV)in the Sf cell line raises questions about the safety of biologics produced by the insect cell baculovirus expression vector system(IC-BEVS).In this paper, the genome structure, the function of component proteins, the ability to infect host cells, the influence of host cells on the virus and the potential safety problems brought by the virus were briefly described,so as to increase people's understanding of the new rhabdovirus.
