Cytokine Levels in the Serum of Children with Adenovirus Pneumonia and Their Correlation with the Prognosis
We wished to measure the serum levels of soluble myeloid trigger receptor-1(sTREM-1),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1(sICAM-1)of children with adenovirus pneumonia and their correlation with the prognosis. The clinical data of 143 children with adenovirus pneumonia admitted from June 2020 to December 2023 were analyzed retrospectively. They were divided into a"severe"group(86 cases)and"non-severe"group(57 cases)according to disease severity.According to the prognosis after 1 week of treatment, children were divided into a"good"prognosis group(111 cases)and"bad"prognosis group(32 cases). The clinical case data of children with adenovirus pneumonia were collected, and differences in serum levels of sTREM1,VEGF and sICAM-1 in children with different disease severity and prognosis were compared.Pearson correlation analysis was employed to analyze the correlation between serum levels of sTREM1,VEGF and sICAM-1 and their disease condition and prognosis. The area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to evaluate the efficacy of serum levels of sTREM1,VEGF and sICAM-1 in prediction of the prognosis of children with adenovirus pneumonia.Serum levels of sTREM-1,VEGF and sICAM-1 in the severe group were significantly higher than those in the non-severe group, and those in the poor prognosis group were higher than those in good prognosis group(all P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum levels of sTREM-1,VEGF and sICAM-1 in children with adenovirus pneumonia were positively correlated with the severity of disease and a poor prognosis(r=0.514,r=0.620,r=0.498;r=0.479,r=0.488,r=0.506,all P<0.05).The area under the ROC curve(AUC)for the serum level of sTREM-1,VEGF and sICAM-1 alone and combined for prediction of a poor prognosis of children with adenovirus pneumonia was 0.801,0.800,0.794 and 0.932,respectively.The AUC for combined detection of these three indices was the highest(Z=2.448,3.095,3.177,all P<0.05).In conclusion, serum levels of sTREM-1,VEGF and sICAM-1 were increased significantly in children with adenovirus pneumonia, and the degree of increase in each index was correlated with the severity of the disease and prognosis. The combined detection of serum levels of sTREM-1,VEGF and sICAM-1 could improve prediction of the prognosis.Early detection can help physicians to judge the condition and prognosis of children with adenovirus pneumonia.
