Biological Characteristics and Pathogenesis of the Epstein-Barr Virus
The Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)is a DNA virus. It is found commonly worldwide. The EBV can infect susceptible members of the general population. It mainly affects school-age children and adolescents in China. The EBV can be stored in memory B cells through latent infection, evading recognition by the human immune system and placing the body in a lifelong"carrier"state. The EBV is associated with several diseases and seriously affects human health. This review focuses on:(i)the biological characteristics and pathogenesis of the EBV;and(ii)how the EBV interacts with its host during tumor development.
