Advances in Reverse Genetic Technology for Rotavirus Based Entirely on Plasmids
Human rotavirus(RV)is a double-stranded RNA virus, belonging to the genus rotavirus in the family Reoviridae. It is the main cause of severe diarrhea in infants and young children under 5 years of age worldwide. In 2017,the reverse genetic technology of rotavirus, which is entirely plasmid-based,was successful and has been continuously improved since then. This technology can be used to obtain artificially modified specific phenotypes of rotavirus in vitro, which promotes and enriches the research on the pathogenic mechanism of rotavirus infection, and development of new generation of rotavirus vaccines, drugs and other interventions. In this paper,we will summarize and compare the reported characteristics of different rotavirus reverse genetic technologies,in order to promote the establishment of rotavirus reverse genetic system in China, and promote the scientific research, prevention and control of rotavirus in China.
