Advances in Molecular Epidemiology and Diagnostic Techniques of Porcine Circovirus Type 4
Porcine circovirus 4(PCV4)is a newly emerging circovirus. It was first discovered in pig herds in Hunan,China in 2019.Retrospective investigations have indicated that PCV4 antibody-positive serum was present as early as 2008,whereas PCV4 DNA can be traced back to 2012.Since its discovery, the genome and antibodies of PCV4 have been detected in pig populations in several Asian countries including China,South Korea, and Thailand. However, there have been no reports of PCV4 in other continents.Researchers have rescued PCV4 using reverse genetics, and experimental animal studies have confirmed its pathogenicity in piglets. In recent years, the diagnostic techniques, epidemiological status, and genomic characteristics of PCV4 have been updated, but phased summaries of this information are lacking. This review summarizes current progress in the diagnostic techniques and molecular epidemiological research of PCV4.In this way,we aim to provide a reference for further studies on PCV4.
