Investigation of Diarrhea Related Virus Infection in Asymptomatic Children in Fengtai District,Beijing,China
There are few research reports on asymptomatic infection of diarrhea related viruses in childcare institutions and young school-age children. This study selected 460 children aged 3-9 from three districts who did not show symptoms of acute gastroenteritis within 4 weeks.Fecal specimens were collected and real-time RT-PCR detection kit was used to detect five types of diarrhea viruses(norovirus, rotavirus, sapovirus, astrovirus and adenovirus). This study revealed that the asymptomatic infection rate of diarrhea virus in children was 8.26%(38/460),with the highest asymptomatic infection rate of Norovirus being 3.26%(15/460),followed by adenovirus(2.61%,12/460),sapovirus(1.52%,7/460),astrovirus(0.43%,2/460),and mixed infection 0.43%(2/460).Rotavirus was not detected in this survey. There was no statistically significant difference in the asymptomatic infection rate among different genders and institutions(x2=0.095,P=0.76;x2=0.86,P=0.354).The positive rate in Fengtai district in Beijing with moderate population density is lower than that in Fangzhuang district in Beijing with dense population and Wangzuo district in Beijing with low population density(x2=9.55,P=0.002;x2=6.80,P=0.009).Both primary school and childcare institution showed higher positive rate in lower grades. The positive rate in the 3-4 year old group of childcare institutions is 13.33%,and the positive rate in the 5-6 year old group is 2.44%.The positive rate in the 6-7 age group of primary school is 11.11%,while no positive was detected in the 8-9 age group. There was no statistically significant difference in the positive rate of norovirus among different genders, institutions, and districts.Adenovirus and astrovirus were only detected in preschool children.Within one month after the investigation, there was no case of acute gastroenteritis in the classes involved by all survey subjects.
