Research Progress in the Role of Circulating miRNAs in Cardiovascular System Diseases Complicated by COVID-19
The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)epidemic has presented a significant challenge to global healthcare systems.Despite successful containment efforts, the adverse effects of the complications associated with COVID-19 and"long COVID-19"syndrome on health(particularly on the cardiovascular circulatory system)should not be overlooked.MicroRNAs are endogenous small-molecule,single-stranded non-coding RNAs.They play a crucial part in regulating essential biological processes. The importance of microRNAs in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases has been established.Their differential expression in the circulation is closely associated with cardiovascular complications in COVID-19.However,the precise contribution of circulating microRNAs to disease progression is not known.Herein,we provide a comprehensive review of the involvement of circulating microRNAs in COVID-19 complicated by cardiovascular diseases. We examined the underlying mechanisms and proposed potential diagnostic and therapeutic strategies targeting circulating microRNAs.In this way,we proposed innovative strategies for the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases in the context of COVID-19.
