Research Progress on Enhanced Electrokinetic Remediation for Heavy Metal-Contaminated Soils
Electrokinetic remediation is an in-situ remediation technology with non-destructive,controllable,widely applicable and considerable treatment effect, but the remediation process has limitations such as high energy consumption, long treatment cycle,acid-base front inhibition, and specific remediation environment. In recent years, the research on enhanced electrokinetic remediation of heavy metal-contaminated soil is relatively novel and abundant, including the development of new auxiliary electrodes, the application of reinforcing agents, and the migration mechanism of metal ions under the electrokinetic system.Based on above, this paper introduces the basic principles and limitations of a single electrokinetic remediation process, summarizes the latest research, including innovative ideas of electrokinetic remediation and engineering referable experiences, points out current challenges and development directions, including the appli-cation of new materials and innovations in engineering practice, etc.,to contribute to the promotion of enhanced electrokinetic technology in the application and dissemination of remediation of heavy metal-con-taminated soils.
