Research on the Potential of Sino Russian Oil and Gas Resources Trade in the Context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict
In recent years, the scale of trade between China and Russia has continued to expand, and the trade structure has been constantly changing. After the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in 2022,Russia suffered sanctions from European and American countries in the fields of economy, energy, and technology.Russia's sanctions pose both risks and opportunities to the trade of oil and gas resources between China and Russia. The issue of oil and gas resources is of concern to countries around the world.China is a major consumer and importer of oil and gas resources, and the stability of oil and gas resource imports is crucial for China. This paper first studies the competitiveness, complementarity and trade integration of Sino Russian oil and gas resources trade, and then collates the data from 2012 to 2021.Based on the Gravity model of trade, this paper empirically analyzes the factors affecting Sino Russian oil and gas resources trade, and calculates the potential of Sino Russian oil and gas resources trade. The results show that the expansion of economic scale, the increase of Russian natural gas production and the emergence of sensitive political events between the two countries have a positive effect on the development of the potential of oil and gas trade between China and Russia; The increase in refinery capacity has a negative impact on unleashing the potential of oil and gas resource trade between China and Russia. In order to further stimulate the potential of oil and gas resource trade between China and Russia, suggestions are proposed from three aspects:politics, economy, and technology to enhance the potential of oil and gas resource trade between China and Russia,in order to provide reference for the development of oil and gas resource trade between China and Russia.
