Impact of Trade Openness on Green Total Factor Productivity in Five Central Asian Countries:Analysis Based on Threshold Effect Model
This paper empirically tests the impact of trade openness on green total factor productivity by building a threshold regression model using panel data of five Central Asian countries from 2000-2019.The paper first proposes the threshold effect hypothesis in four aspects:economic aggregation, infrastructure, financial development and institutional quality, and then measures the threshold level affecting the green technology spillover effect of trade opening in terms of both import trade and export trade. The results show that economic aggregation, infrastructure, financial development and institutional quality all have significant threshold effects on green technology spillovers from foreign trade of the five Central Asian countries.Compared with export trade, import trade requires a lower threshold for the threshold variables to take effect, and imports have a greater and more significant role in promoting green technological progress in Central Asian countries.
