Acute and Subchronic Toxicity Study of Hongmao Yaojiu on Rats
Objective:To investigate the acute and subchronic toxicity reactions of Hongmao Yaojiu and provide experimental basis for evaluating the safety.Methods:Single-dose and 13-week oral toxicity tests were conducted on rats.Results:Single-dose administration of Hongmao Yaojiu exceeding 20 mL/kg in rats cause serious toxic reactions such as unsteady gait, lethargy, prone position, lateral lying, and death. When rats was given Hongmao Yaojiu continuously for 13-week,and compared with the control group receiving sterile injection water, there were no significant differences in weekly body weight, food intake, hematological and blood biochemical indices,organ-body ratio at the end and recovery period of administration among the 1,3,and 6 mL/kg groups.Except for idiopathy,no significant toxic pathological changes in the 6 mL/kg dose group. Conclusion:The maximum tolerated dose of Hongmao Yaojiu in rats via oral administration is about 20 mL/kg,and continuous administration of Hongmao Yaojiu for 3 months at a dose of 6 mL/kg did not show any significant adverse reactions in rats.
