Analysis and improvement of a converter tilting device accident in steelmaking
In response to a molten slag overflow accident happening on the 250 t converter of a steel mill for the loss of control of the converter tilting device, the composition of the electric driving system and the monitoring of the starting-stopping process of the converter tilting device were introduced. The reasons for the short-term loss of control during the stopping process of the tilting device were analyzed. It was found that there are serious defects in the design of the brake and emergency stop control of the tilting device.Through the optimization and improvement of the control system, the problems of short-term loss of control and brake action delay in the tilting device have been solved. It is suggested to improve the monitoring of the balance between the armature, excitation, and currents of the four DC motors in each converter tilting device. This has guiding significance for the perfection and safe operation of the large-scale converter tilting device that are controlled by a single electrical speed regulation device for multiple motors.
