Resistance to Perishability:Critical Reflections on Contemporary Digital Audio-Visual Culture
Based on the analysis of representative formats of digital audio-visual content, this study explores the evolving patterns of contemporary digital audio-visual culture, and reflects on the historical and societal roles of media culture at large. It finds that contemporary digital audio-visual culture has shown a rich and diverse trend in its changing process, presenting new features of theatricality and performance, and taking the feature of artificial intelligence as a key future dimension.Accordingly, this study conducts a critical reflection on the perishability of digital audio-visual culture from five aspects. The study believes that the basic contradiction in the development of digital audio-visual culture is embedded in the difference between its artistic and media attributes over the issue of communication efficiency and advocates resisting against perishability as both the value and goal to examine the negative impact of digital technology on culture. It also calls for a return to classic Marxist cultural theories to explore a possible path to resist perishabi1ity by building a living culture, which adheres to historical standards and public sensibility.
