How Can On-Site Practice be Theorized?An Examination of the Autonomy of Knowledge Generation in Chinese New Media Communication(1994-2024)
The 30 years of China's new media communication is the 30 years that its unique communication practice has become a leading force in the world,and it is also the 30 years that it has increasingly activated its theoretical innovation and moved from"other dominance"to"autonomy",and gradually gained a say in the field of global knowledge production.Therefore,the study of autonomous knowledge generation has become an important academic proposition to respond to the concerns of reality.Therefore,this study takes theory development,theory critique and theory innovation as the logical main lines of insight into the autonomy of its knowledge generation.It finds that theory development is characterized by the evolution from technology-driven to practice-enabled,while theory criticism mainly focuses on classical theories and research paradigms.In the meanwhile,theory innovation mainly involves the Chinese interpretation of Western concepts and the theorization of China's unique practices,therefore,its autonomous knowledge generation features the theorization of practice-enhanced intellectualism,which is specifically developing from technology-driven to practice-enabled,evolving from functionalism to practice-oriented paradigm,and shifting from globalization to practice-enabling.The specific research orientation is changing from technology-driven to practice-supported;the paradigm is shifting from functionalism to practice;and the constructive approach is moving from global localization to local globalization.The study of the autonomy of knowledge generation in Chinese new media communication is a longitudinal and horizontal combing of the logic of its academic evolution,as well as an epochal commitment to provide intellectual support for Chinese-style modernization.
