As for Huo Yuanjia,a Wushutist at the end of Qing Dynasty, his real experience can be ascertained mainly in his two trips to Shanghai.Based on detailed historical materials study and interpretation, this paper aims to reveal the true history of Huo Yuanjia's two trips to Shanghai. His first trip to Shanghai was in early December 1909.He opened a challenge arena at the venue of Shanghai Production Association held in Zhangyuan from December 3 to 5,during which he agreed to compete with an American strongman, but for some reason it was not successful, which attracted widespread attention. His second trip to Shanghai was from April 1910 until his death. In mid April,he opened a challenge arena in Zhangyuan again. He had originally arranged a competition with a British strongman, but the other party did not attend the appointment. He started participating in the establishment of the Chinese Jingwu Gymnastics Association in mid June and passed away shortly thereafter.Although the two trips to Shanghai were Huo Yuanjia's"small history",they could echo the"big History"of Shanghai's social changes at the end of Qing Dynasty in many aspects.
