A Study on the Cognitive Differences of the Elderly:the Evidence from the Effectiveness of Traditional Wushu Training
Recent studies have shown that aerobic training can slow down the deterioration of cognitive function in the elderly. There is evidence that the combination of aerobic exercise, balanced exercise and coordinated exercise can improve or maintain cognitive function. The study of age-related sports intervention is especially common in East Asian Wushu. The purpose of this study is to verify whether the traditional Wushu training of the elderly can improve their cognitive function.Methods:89 elderly women and men(mean age 65 years old)participated in this study.Participants were randomly divided into two intervention groups(traditional Wushu group and fitness group, intervention time:6 months)and control group. All participants must complete a cognitive test before and after the intervention. In another study, the traditional Wushu group received additional intervention for another six months. The results show that only after 6 months of traditional Wushu training, sports responsiveness, stress tolerance and attention distraction were significantly improved. In addition, the results of the second study showed that the condition improved further after 12 months.Conclusion:6 months of traditional Wushu training is helpful to improve attention, flexibility and sports reaction time, but 12 months of training time is more effective.
