Spatio-temporal characteristics of wheat planting area based on Sentinel-2A satellite remote sensing images
This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and reliability of using mid-resolution remote sensing data to detect large-scale wheat through remote sensing at the municipal and provincial levels. It also explored the spatio-temporal distribution characteristics of wheat planting in Henan Province at the municipal and provincial levels. The wheat planting area and distribution in Henan Province from 2018 to 2022 were extracted by using the threshold method of the phenology information based on Sentinel-2A satellite remote sensing images. The results were compared with the statistical results. There was a strong correlation between wheat planting area in Henan Province extracted from Sentinel-2A satellite remote sensing images and statistical planting area (R2=0.8159). Spatially, wheat planting in Henan Province was mainly concentrated in the northern, eastern, and southern regions, with larger planting areas in cities such as Zhumadian and Zhoukou and smaller planting areas in cities such as Jiyuan and Sanmenxia. Temporally, the wheat planting area in Henan Province showed an increasing trend from 2018 to 2019 but a slow decreasing trend from 2019 to 2022. The analysis shows that geographical location, natural resources, climate change, aging population, urban development, and government support policies are all important factors affecting changes in wheat planting areas.
