Rapid construction method for rule-defined urban 3D models
Aiming at problems such as long construction cycle, high investment cost, and poor sharing in the urban three-dimensional(3D) model construction, this paper proposed a rapid construction method for rule-defined 3D models relying on the City Engine software based on the objectives of batch-ability,interactivity and re-usability. The method utilized existing two-dimensional(2D) data to rapidly model urban features in the experimental area by establishing rules, which formed a universal urban model rule library. At the same time, the rule library's application in planning fields including indicator analysis and visibility analysis was explored. The experimental results show that employing common feature definition rules for modeling can realize batched and automated model construction. Tens of thousands of 3D models are constructed within a few minutes, which significantly improves the modeling efficiency. Moreover, the defined rules can be reused and adjusted, which effectively reduces the workload of modifying the model at the later stage of construction and saves a lot of human, financial, and material resources.
