Format management is the key to ensure the authenticity,integrity,security and availability of digital records.In order to deal with the challenges of format obsolescence and diffu-sion,format management should not only be con-sidered at the technical level,but also at the stra-tegic level.The National Archives of the United Kingdom started the research and practice on dig-ital records format management earlier,and formed a continuous comprehensive and tridi-mensional management strategy,which effec-tively guaranteed the long-term preservation and accessibility of digital records,and has posi-tive reference value for China.This paper analyz-es the format management strategy of the Na-tional Archives of the United Kingdom from three aspects:information model,application scenario and format tool,and extracts three enlighten-ments for Chinese digital records format manage-ment,including establishing a comprehensive and dynamically adaptable format management framework,embedding format management into the whole life cycle management of electronic documents,and actively promoting the develop-ment and utilization of format management tools.
