Abstract
The masterpiece of short novel A White Heron written by Sarah Orne Jewett depicts how the heroine Sylvia,a lonely and poor 9-year -old girl,resisted the temptation of friendship and money to protect the natural living creature,white heron.The unnamed young man of this novel was strictly criticized as a negative character destroying natural environment by other scholars.This essay attempts to analyze him from a positive angle avoiding the problem of ecology.
