The traditional documental study and the editional system as its descriptive framework had a bias towards the material forms of its carriers,which did not meet the direct demand of literature research for texts.Moreover,the means of research concerning the texts was mainly the collation of variant texts on the levels of words and sentences,which failed to respond to the new changes of the documental carriers and contents from the era of transcripts into the era of block-printed editions.In order to solve this problem,we should establish a textual system for documents with the differences of textual contents as the standard on the level of sections and chapters.The textual system is not only simpler and more convenient than the editional system,but also offers more possibilities for the selection of the original text when we collate an ancient book.Besides,the textual system has its superiority with wide connection and logical rationality when we handle some difficult problems left over by the editional system.The textual system and the editional system have a coordination relationship on the conceptual level,and are two separate descriptive frameworks based on two different standards.But they have a progressive relationship on the operational level,and the textual system can only be established under the premise of the grasping of the editional system.In nature,the transformation from the editional system to the textual system lays stress on the transfer from material factor to human factor,which is the core clue to communicate documents with literature.
