"Golden mean"(大中),also known as"the golden mean course"(大中之道),is the core and main idea of Liu Zongyuan's(柳宗元)thought,and Anti-discourses on the State(《非国语》)is an important work that intensively reflects his idea of"golden mean".In Anti-discourses on the Stat,Liu Zongyuan based himself on the idea of"golden mean",and made an innovative exposition of some important propositions of traditional Confucianism,which not only deepened the Confucianist thought of the Tang Dynasty,but also showed the uniqueness of his thought,thus having an important significance in the history of ideology.Based on"golden mean",Liu Zongyuan carried out rational thinking in a critical way,which promoted the shift of Confucianism of the Han Dynasty(汉学)to Neo-Confucianism of the Song Dynasty(宋学).What's more,he emphasized"keeping pace with the times and serving the society"and political practice,which also had a potential impact on later Confucian thinkers who paid attention to the application of Confucianism to the human world.
