"Heavenly Way"and"Ancient Way":Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty's Practice of Rituals and Music and Its Significance in the History of Literature
The change of the ideas on rituals and music during the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty(汉武帝)contributed to the elevation of the status of prose and verse and the rise of the consciousness of literary language. In the process of creating rituals and composing music,Emperor Wu intentionally abandoned tradition and even carried out dehistoricization, and then turned to adopt a religionized path, changing"the creation of rituals by following the ancient way"(法古制礼)to"the creation of rituals by following the heavenly way"(奉天制礼).This transformation from the"ancient way"(古道)to the"heavenly way"(天道)rekindled the mythical imagination and poetic passion of the Han Empire, and nurtured a generation of writers with great personality in the history of literature.
