Preparation of Strain-insensitive Liquid Metal Conductive Fibers by Wet Spinning
Liquid metal ( LM) conductive fibers can maintain electrical conductivity in the state of stretching and folding, thus have wide applications in the field of smart textiles. However, the conductivity of LM fibers decreases significantly when stretched. In this paper,strain-insensitive LM conductive fibers were prepared by the coaxial wet spinning method. The conductive fibers were composed of LM/polyurethane elastomer ( TPU) as the core material and TPU as the sheath material. The effects of LM content and core diameter on the fiber structure and properties were investigated. The results show that the LM conductive fibers have good mechanical properties: the tensile modulus is 17.7 MPa,the elongation at break is about 475%,and the breaking strength is about 29.5 MPa.In ad-dition,the prepared conductive fibers have an obvious core-sheath structure. The larger the core layer diameter, the higher the liquid metal content, and the better the tensile resistance stability. With a core diameter of 0.6 mm and LM mass fraction of 97%,the conductive fiber exhibits an almost constant resistance in the strain range of 0-300%.
