The Black Cat is one of the representative works of Gothic novels created by Edgar Allan Poe. Previous studies on The Black Cat mainly focused on the themes of the work and the writer's use of imagery, and only very few researchers analyzed this work from the readers' perspective, but the dimensions of the analysis are relatively single. Through Multi-dimensional and multi-theoretical perspectives which include the Unity of Effect, Transactional Reader-response theory, and Defamiliarization, the horrible atmosphere created by The Black Cat was analyzed from the perspectives of the interaction relationship between the author, the book, and the reader. Therefore, this research had a thorough discussion of how Allan Poe applied his superb writing skills to construct a well-rounded horror atmosphere, how the reader could interact through reading the book, as well as how readers resonated with the writer.
