Maya Angelo's autobiographical novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings not only completes the retelling and memory of her growth process, but also exposes the difficulties of black women under racial segregation in the United States.White racial discrimination, sexual assault, and internal family conflicts have caused Angelo's"individual traumatic memory"in his childhood;the life of the black community under racial segregation highlighted the"collective memory"of the black community at that time;Angelo's resistance to fate essentially reflects the"counter-memory"attempts of marginalized groups.Angelo's memory writing of her own growth process not only reflects the individual complaints of racial segregation and discrimination by black women, but also demonstrates the determination of marginalized groups to confront the white discourse system in adversity.
