The always-progressive aspect construction represents a significant variant in the diachronic development of the English progressive aspect.Based on the Corpus of Contemporary American English(COCA),this study employs construct collocation analysis to explore the aktionsarten that are mutually attracted(or repelled)by this type of progressive construction, and analyzes the pragmatic effects of this construction. It is found that action verbs,change-of-state verbs, communication verbs, cognitive verbs, and phenomenon verbs all exhibit significant attraction to this construction. The non-homogeneity of verbs is an essential characteristic of their co-occurrence with this progressive construction.Previous studies, largely based on researchers'linguistic intuition, often considered this type of progressive construction to primarily express negative evaluative meanings. However, through detailed corpus analysis,it has been found that the neutral meaning of this type of progressive construction dominates, which actually reflects the conceptual function of language.
