Why is Swedish Basic Education Returning to Tradition in the Context of Digitalization
In the global digital wave,Sweden took the lead in implementing the National Digital Strategy for School Systems(2017-2022)in 2017,aiming to promote the digitalization process of basic education.However,with the deepening implementation of the strategy,students'performance in basic knowledge and skills such as reading and mathematics has significantly declined,leading to widespread concerns about the quality of education.Therefore,the Swedish government decided to suspend this strategy in 2023 and instead restore and strengthen traditional education.This article systematically analyzes the differences and connections between digital education and traditional education,as well as the process and key changes of Sweden's digital transformation of basic education.It reveals the main reasons for returning basic education to tradition and elaborates the government's response strategies in detail.Research has shown that the return of basic education in Sweden to tradition is not only a shift in educational practice,but also a profound reflection on the essence of education and the boundaries of technological application.This process demonstrates the Swedish government's firm commitment to education quality,comprehensive student development,and educational equity,as well as a clear understanding of the complexity of digital transformation.
