Interdisciplinary Research Organization:A French Model of Micro-level Organized Research in University
Interdisciplinary research organization is an organizational model innovation carried out by French research-oriented universities.Through intersection of research and teaching organizations, the separation of research and teaching systems is realized. This organizational design helps to strengthen the research competence of organizations and to promote cross-disciplinary integration.Interdisciplinary research can help break down the disciplinary barriers, arrange research teams around strategic research areas or theoretical schools, expand cooperation networks, and conduct flexible regulation by the state.Four underlying factors are worthy of attention:the underlying cultural-institutional basis for the separation of research and teaching systems;interdisciplinary subjects as the carrier of organized research;interrelated roles of the state and universities;and the limits and boundaries of organized research.
