A Study of Braille Standardization from the Perspective of Corpus
The field of Braille has long relied on traditional research methods, which suffer from low efficiency, narrow coverage, strong subjectivity, and poor shareability. At present,China has built the world's first large-scale Braille corpus with millions of entries, featuring, three dimensions and six layers of detailed annotation, including tactile discrimination of Braille(cell, whole),contrast(Chinese characters-pinyin)and linguistics(tone, word segmentation).Utilizing this corpus for quantitative research on Braille can promote a comprehensive understanding of the development of Chinese Braille.A thorough quantitative analysis of Braille is conducted in terms of tone marking consistency and word segmentation consistency, identifying the existing issues in current braille practices.Suggestions and strategies are provided for the revision of the"National General Braille Scheme"and construction of the standardization of Braille, aiming to enhance the level of standardization in Braille publishing.
